Civilisovaná žena: Jak se má kultivovaná žena oblékati [Civilized woman: how a cultivated woman should dress]. By Jan Vaněk, Bozena Horneková & Rossmann. 96 pp. Photographically illustrated throughout. 8vo., 243 x 171 mm, bound in publisher’s wrappers with a photomontage by Rossmann. Brno: J. Vaněk, 1929.
Published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition in Brno, featuring Bozena Horneková's revolutionary fashion designs advocating unrestricted movement and the practicality of trousers for the active, modern woman. Modernist typography and photomontage by Rossmann, a member of the Brno chapter of Devetsil, exemplifying the functionalist and socially engaged aesthetics of the Brno avant-garde. Issued bilingually in Czech and German, the publication reflects the internationalist and humanist ethos of the Brno avant-garde, merging progressive design principles with feminist and social reform movements of the late 1920s.
Rare, OCLC finds just 4 copies in the US at the Getty, Yale, Art Institute of Chicago and The Smithsonian. Spine with some professional repairs, some light general wear to the cover, over all very good.
