Rudiments of Drawing Cabinet and Upholstery Furniture: Comprehending concise and explicit instructions for designing and delineating the different…Illustrated with appropriate diagrams. Xii, [2], 52 pp. Illustrated with 25 engraved plates of which 16 have contemporary hand-colouring. 4to., 280 x 220 mm, bound in contemporary quarter red morocco over marbled boards. London: The Author, 1820.
First Edition. A rare work on the use of perspective when designing furniture. The plates are particularly attractive, with the finished furniture depicted in colour, the perspectival projections shown in black-and-white, and many plates with touches of aquatint.
A second ‘improved’ edition was published in 1835 which is fairly common; however, this first edition is rare with just 3 copies located in the U.S. by OCLC. A very good copy, with the spine professionally repaired, and four small library stamps on the front paste-down, title and two pages of the preface.
