A spectacular and early example of the use of pictorial statistics in the Soviet Union.First developed in 1920s Vienna by Otto Neurath, the Soviets were early adopters forming the IZOSTAT Institute in 1931 with Ivanitzky as one of its major theoreticians.
Here, Ivanitzky converts an arid compilation of government statistics on subjects varying from trade union receipts to shoe production into a dazzling illustrated book. The overambitious and exaggerated statistics are captioned in English as these publications where clearly intended to impress Western audiences with the Soviet Union's rapid modernization.
