Kurt SCHWITTERS

Kurt SCHWITTERS

Die Scheuche Märchen.  12 unnumbered pages.  Typographically illustrated throughout.  Oblong 8vo., 200 x 245 mm, bound in publisher’s printed wrappers.  Hannover: Apossverlag, 1925.

An exceptionally fine copy of this remarkable combination of the Dada and De Stijl aesthetic.  Kurt Schwitters eschews illustration for a purely typographical design to bring this children’s book to life.  Typsetter, Paul Vogt, was game to cut the unusual type pieces required to fully realize Schwitters’ vision.

This copy has a variant cover with Apossverlag publisher’s devise printed perpendicularly below the title.  OCLC finds just one copy in the US at Yale.  Aside from some light foxing to the front and back cover, the present copy is very well preserved which is rarely true for this publication.
