Śpiewy o Rzeczy-pospolitej: Poezje [Songs of the Republic: Poems] By Jalu Kurek. 32 pp. 8vo., 215 x 150 mm, bound in publisher’s wrappers with an elaborate typographical desing by Podsadecki. [Kraków: "Powściągliwość i Praca", 1929].
A rare example of Polish avant-garde book design with a constructivist cover by Kazimierez Podsadecki. Podsadecki (1904-1970) spent the pre-war years steeped in the avant-garde, experimenting with photomontage, typography and film, all in the constructivist tradition.
A very good example with some wear to the edges of the fragile wrappers, professionally reinforced on verso in two spots. A rare book with OCLC failing to locate a copy in the US.
