Franz VETTER

Franz VETTER

Die Farbe, ihre Erscheinung, ihr Wesen und ihre Wirkung: eine praktische Fablehre der angewandten Farbe für den Maler und für verwandte Berufe. x, 192 pp.  Illustrated with 5 full-page plates and one double-page plate each with tipped on colour samples including one colour wheel.  8vo., 205 x 147 mm, bound in publisher’s printed red wrappers.  Langensalza; Berlin; Leipzig: Beltz ,1931.

An aesthetically pleasing Bauhaus era practical colour guide for painters and ‘other related professions’.  Vetter, a painter himself, was also a teacher and this work is drawn from that experience.  An advertisement for Pelikan poster colours at the end contains a colour wheel that appears to be modeled after Ostwald’s.

Rare, with OCLC locating just three copies in the US; Harvard, Yale and NYPL.  Minor wear, spine a little sun-faded, overall a near fine copy.
