First Edition. The rare first edition of this popular guide to drawing caricatures which went through several editions including one in French. The illustrations are the highlight with the isolated mouths and noses having a surreal, sometimes horrifying affect. Grose seems to have been quite prolific as suggested by the ad in the back for seven further works by him on a variety of subjects. A faint blindstamp appears on the last several leaves, and two facing illustrations appear to be re-hinged at some point, one small marginal tear, else a very good copy.
