Currated by Hans Severus Ziegler. 32 pp. Illustrated with caricatures and photographs. Thin 8vo, 210 x 150 mm, bound in publisher's illustrated wrappers. Dusseldorf: Druck und Verlag: 1938.
A fine copy of this exhibition catalogue on ‘degenerate music’ best known for its abhorrent cover illustration. Entartete Musik was the follow up to the more well know Entartete Kunst exhibition from the previous year. Curated by leading Nazi official Hans Ziegler, the usual scapegoats are on display with jazz, cabaret, avant-garde music and above all Jewish composers in the crosshairs. It remains stark reminder of the dangers of cultural suppression. The catalogue is rare on account of its fragile format and upsetting subject matter.
