KIRBY, Mr. Dr. Brook Taylor’s Method of Perspective Compared with Examples lately pulish’d on this Subject as Sirigatti’s, by Isaac Ware, esq… [4], viii, 36 pp. Illustrated with 6 full-page engraved plates and one engraved folding plate. London: R. and J. Dodley, [ND, ca. 1757]. First Edition. 4to., 255 x 204 mm, bound in contemporary mottled calf, tan morocco title label, spine elaborately gilt.
A very appealing sammelband of 18th century English works on perspective perfectly preserved in an unrestored contemporary binding. Hogarth’s frontispiece for the second work being the highlight of the illustrations, showing a world without perspective including a warning; “Whoever makes a Design without the Knowledge of Perspective will be liable to such Absurdities as are shown in this Frontispiece.” A fine copy.
PROVENANCE: Bookplate of Belgian bibliophile Francois-Jean-Joseph Mols (1722-1790) on the front paste-down.
